Mongolia, a land of vast landscapes and rich cultural heritage, is known for its extreme climate and breathtaking natural beauty. It is a land of stark contrasts, where snow-capped mountains meet vast deserts and lush grasslands stretch as far as the eye can see. It is a place where the seasons are distinct, and the weather can change dramatically in just a day. But no matter the season, Mongolia is always a beautiful and captivating place to visit.

Spring
As winter bids us farewell, Mongolia awakens with the vibrant colors of spring. Spring in Mongolia is a time of renewal and rebirth. The vast land and the mountains come alive with the blossoming of wildflowers, offering a breathtaking sight. It’s a season of hope, rebirth, and new beginnings and holds a special place in the hearts of Mongolian herders. Mongolian herders eagerly anticipate the birthing season, when their livestock - horses, cows, camels, sheep, and goats give birth. Welcoming these new arrivals is a moment of great joy and celebration for herders. They closely monitor their livestock, ensuring the well-being of the mothers and their newborns.

It's also the time to shed the heavy winter layers and embrace a lighter feeling. Cashmere goats begin growing their undercoat during the colder months in preparation for winter. The optimal time for combing is typically in the spring when the goats start shedding their winter coats. This ensures the collection of the finest, softest fibers. If the herders don’t comb their cashmere wool, it gets lumpy and tangled. Combing involves gently separating the cashmere undercoat from the coarser outer layer of hair. Herders use specialized combs designed to effectively and gently remove the cashmere without causing harm or distress to the goats. This careful combing process results in a precious collection of ultra-soft, fine cashmere fibers.

As the snow begins to melt in spring and nature awakens, the Mongolian herders migrate in search of green pastures. Guided by generations of wisdom and experience, these migrations are not just a practical necessity but a testament to the deep connection herders share with the land.

Summer
Summer in Mongolia invites clear blue skies that stretch endlessly over the expansive landscapes. It's the perfect time to explore the country's stunning natural beauty, from the rolling green hills to the crystal-clear lakes.

During this time, the nomadic herders continued their age-old tradition of migration, seeking the lushest grasslands for their animals. Nomadic herders migrate with their livestock, creating a vision of harmony between humanity and nature. Herders dedicate their days to diligently tending to their livestock. They guide the animals across the grasslands, ensuring they have access to ample grazing grounds and clean water sources. This period demands constant vigilance and expertise to safeguard the health and well-being of the herds.

Autumn
Autumn in Mongolia is a time of beauty. The leaves of the trees turn a vibrant gold, and the sunsets are spectacular. The days grow shorter and cooler, and the first snow of winter begins to fall. This is a time of year to cozy up by the fire and enjoy the peace and tranquility of the countryside. As the golden hues of autumn paint the Mongolian landscape, herders embrace a season of transition, marking the end of summer's abundance and the beginning of preparations for the approaching winter.

The season of autumn calls for meticulous preparations. Herders gather and store hay, a crucial food source for the livestock during the forthcoming winter. Autumn also brings the herder's attention to the “ger”, a portable home that has weathered the elements through countless seasons. With the arrival of cooler nights, herders meticulously inspect the ger's structure, reinforcing its frame and ensuring its insulation against the biting winter winds.

Winter
Winter in Mongolia is a time of harsh beauty. The land is covered in a thick blanket of snow, and the temperatures can drop to as low as -40 degrees Celsius. It demands extra care and attention to protect the herds from the biting cold. Even though the winter cold can feel extreme at times, it can benefit the goat's cashmere, helping it become softer and more graceful. But despite the cold, winter is also a time of magic and wonder. The snow-covered landscapes are breathtaking, and the night sky is filled with stars.

With the start of winter, the herders' daily routine undergoes a significant shift. Their primary focus shifts to conserving the precious resources that sustain the herd through the harsh winter months. Hay, meticulously gathered during autumn, becomes the lifeline for all the animals, ensuring their survival until spring's return. Despite the challenges of winter, the herders maintain a deep connection to the natural world. They observe the subtle changes in the weather, the movements of the animals, and the rhythm of the seasons.
