“We are all interconnected through our environment. The air we breathe, the earth we walk on, and the water we drink connect and sustain us. Earth Day is a beautiful reminder of how much our Earth provides for us. That’s why it’s more important than ever that Earth Day is seen as a rallying cry for real action on the climate crisis.” - Zoe Ghertner - British Vogue

Here at GOBI Cashmere, we source directly from the Mongolian herders whose goats provide us with the premium cashmere wool we work with daily to create the most beautiful, high-quality garments for you.

Why do we celebrate Earth Day?

You can see, feel, and hear it all around us - pollution, climate change, and the deterioration of our precious planet. Earth Day is a signal to all of us that we are not hopeless. We can take responsibility for our planet and make incremental changes to our lifestyles that can make a huge difference to our environment. Earth Day was created as a way to channel the growing public awareness of environmental issues into a coordinated effort to address these challenges and push for governmental changes.

The origin of Earth Day was in the 1960s, when US Senator Gaylord Nelson was inspired by the anti-war movement of the time to address the growing concerns about environmental issues. Nelson was looking to create a grassroots movement that would bring attention to the urgent need for environmental protection and conservation.

Earth Day first took place on April 22, 1970, with activities and events across the United States. Millions of people participated in rallies, marches, and educational events focused on environmental concerns, successfully bringing awareness to these causes.

Earth Day is commemorated and:

Inspires

Promotes positive change

Sparks advocacy

Builds communities across 190 countries.

Inspired by Earth Day, other important environmental events have followed suit, like World Water Day, Arbor Day, and World Wildlife Day, among others.

If you would like to actively participate in the day’s activities, use search terms like “Earth Day clean-up events near me” or gather folks in your community to clean a beach or a park. You can also write to your local government asking for changes to environmental policies.

GOBI Cashmere’s Commitments

At GOBI Cashmere, quality isn’t just a buzzword — it’s at the heart of everything we do. From the way we source our materials to the methods used in production, we oversee every step ourselves. This commitment starts with our work alongside Mongolian nomads, who have been raising goats for centuries. For over 40 years, we have closely worked with these herders, who hand-comb their goats during the natural molting season. This long-standing partnership allows us to collect the finest cashmere fibers, with fiber origin recorded for each batch.

Cashmere Production

As our commitment to you, GOBI adheres to the following brand values and principles:

  • We work directly with trusted Mongolian nomadic herders who raise their goats as they have done for generations.
  • Hand-combing during the natural shedding season is deeply intertwined within our brand DNA and Mongolian culture to produce the best cashmere products in the world.
  • We work closely with our nomadic partners, who have lived and worked on this land for centuries.
  • GOBI continuously upgrades outdated technology with modern machines.
  • We oversee every stage of our cashmere manufacturing process, from herder to finished garment.
  • Quality Manufacturing Practices

At GOBI Cashmere, quality and safety are the cornerstones of our production process. We are proud to hold the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, a globally recognized label for textiles that meet stringent safety standards. This certification ensures that our cashmere products are tested for harmful substances under OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100. By using only certified materials and processes, we demonstrate our commitment to producing high-quality garments.

NATURAL COLOR COLLECTION - Gobi produces and delivers the Natural Color Collection to customers with the aim of offering undyed cashmere. This collection is unique in that it uses the natural four colors of Mongolian cashmere, processed directly without any dyes, making the finished products stand out. As a result, every shade comes straight from the goats' natural coats.

The Natural Color Collection preserves the natural colors of the cashmere, just as they grow on the goats. The absence of dyes allows for dye-free production, offering products in soft, natural tones and providing customers with a more comfortable wearing experience.

WHOLEGARMENT 3D COLLECTION - The seamless cashmere products differ from traditional knitted items in that they are created without seams, offering a unique design. In addition, the manufacturing process of WHOLEGARMENT technology avoids color and pattern mismatches between separately knitted panels.

This cutting-edge technology allows for the creation of fully knitted garments without the need for sewing, resulting in seamless garments that are more comfortable to wear. By utilizing WHOLEGARMENT technology, GOBI knits each garment in one piece.

REBORN COLLECTION - Since 2023, we have introduced a new initiative with the launch of the Cashmere Reborn Collection. This collection stands out by giving selected production remnants a second life as recycled cashmere yarn for new products. No primary processing or dyeing is involved, and each piece is crafted with the same attention to quality as our other collections.

The Cashmere Reborn Collection exemplifies our commitment to craftsmanship and innovation. By repurposing materials, we create new, high-quality products that give cashmere a second life.

    GOBI’s Partnerships with Industry Organizations

We pride ourselves on working closely with organizations across the cashmere industry.

    We partner with:

National Federation of Pasture User Groups of Herders - The Mongolian Pastureland Users Association, which worked with Digital Medic LLC to develop The Green Gold Project, an origin-tracking system to increase the prestige of Mongolian livestock, raw materials, and products.

STEPECOLAB - In 2021, STEPECOLAB in cooperation with the Mongolian Wool and Cashmere Association, developed the “Voluntary Rules for Sustainable Textile Production,” which we agreed to follow in our cashmere production.

The Sustainable Fibre Alliance - SFA is known for its work on natural and pasture resources, living conditions for livestock, and the efficiency of each participant in the supply of cashmere.

And we will continue to look for innovative ways to craft the finest Mongolian cashmere, from herder to finished garment. Earth Day has become a symbol of environmental activism, marked around the world every year.
